Protection greyed out

After loosing the HD twice--initializing--reinstalling--configuring, etc; I
decided to go to Control Panels-->General Controls and check protect system
folder. Trouble is, it is greyed out and I don't knoe how to activate it. Any
ideas??

If file sharing is turned on, it won't allow you to set the System
Folder to protection.

Same goe if you're using multiusers, I think.

Try trashing your General Controls Prefs file (from the Preferences
folder) and rebooting. I should point out, though, that turning on the
Protect System Folder won't accomplish your goal. It'll keep someone
else from moving files out of your System Folder, but it won't prevent
file corruption and directory damage.
